STRING ADAPTER AND HEADSTOCK MOUNT CARE & MAINTENANCE
In a word… none. Our string adapters are ready to use right out of the box and don’t need any maintenance. We don’t recommend using lubrication of any kind on the screws.
PRODUCT MATERIALS
Brass products are made from alloy 360. Aluminum products are made from either alloy 2024 or 6061. All screws are made from 18-8 Stainless Steel. The Bass Mute is made from natural rubber bonded to a precision backing plate. End Caps are precision made from a very sturdy black plastic material.
HOW LONG DO STRING ADAPTERS AND HEADSTOCK MOUNTS LAST
Our String Adapters and Headstock Mounts are made to the highest standards and engineered to eliminate the “stripped thread” problems common on other adapters. In daily use they should easily last many years.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BRASS AND ALUMINUM
We’re frequently asked which material is more durable… neither material has an advantage in terms of durability. A String Adapter or Headstock Mount made from either material will last many years. That said, there are some differences between the 2 metals. There is a color difference with Aluminum being a silver color and Brass being a gold color. Another difference is weight, with Brass being heavier than Aluminum. Some customers have reported that the added weight of Brass might add or color the sustain quality of your instrument. The light weight of Aluminum should have minimal impact on the tone of your instrument. Brass will develop a beautiful natural patina over time, while Aluminum will stay pretty much unchanged.
WHY SHOULD I USE A STRING ADAPTER
In a word… tone. I made my first string adapter because I wanted the sound of my favorite flat wound strings which were not available as double ball strings. There are just a few double ball strings made, but lots and lots of single ball strings. Give yourself the option to use any string you want with a string adapter!
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STRING ADAPTERS AND HEADSTOCK MOUNTS
String Adapters are designed to be used with headless instruments using Steinberger hardware. The String Adapter is held against the Headpiece of your instrument allowing you to use any standard single ball string.
Headstock Mounts are meant for folks who are putting together their own custom instrument. They’re designed to be used with any bridge that has built in tuners. You use the neck of your choice as long as there is a place for the Headstock Mount to bolt on. Any standard single ball string can be used with our Headstock Mounts.
CUSTOM WORK
Yes, we do custom work. We’ve gotten requests for Headstock Mounts that have different string spacings, or for instruments with more strings such as a 6-String Bass Guitar.
